(NBC Los Angeles) A gas station owner who was filling up his car Thursday night ducked and ran to the other side of his vehicle to find cover seconds before officers opened fire on a carjacking suspect in Hollywood.

The gunfire outside the gas station at Vermont Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard occurred at the end of a pursuit. Harry Hahn, who has owned the Shell station for about six years, was outside the driver's side of his Cadillac sedan when the suspect pulled up just a few feet away.

Hahn can be seen on surveillance video sprinting around the front of his car to the passenger's side as several squad cars arrive. The officers yelled for him to get down, Hahn said.

"I thought maybe he was going to shoot at me," Hahn said Friday.

The carjacking suspect -- a man in his 20s -- was shot and killed. Hahn was not injured.
