Caltrans employees killed in the line of duty were honored in a special ceremony Thursday morning.

Since 1924, a total of 178 highway maintenance and other workers have been killed as they did their jobs. Thursday each of the fallen were represented by an orange traffic cone.

Caltrans officials want to remind drivers to be aware as they drive the state's highways - because it could make all the difference. "When motorists see highway workers and orange signs, we ask them please slow down, please pay attention to your surroundings. And also there is the Move-Over Law, you are required to either move over when it is safe, or slow down to a safe speed. Just please watch out for our employees, we don't want them to get hurt or killed."

Sadly, three new cones we added in this year's ceremony to memorialize three Caltrans workers that were killed in seperate accidents last May and June.
