A Fresno company is leading the way in terms of Chinese take-out. The company produces the most recognizable take out box in the nation.
It's a familiar name, one that's seen all over the country, printed on Chinese take out boxes manufactured in Fresno.
"We've made a product that is popular in a lot of different restaurants."
Sales Manager, Terry Friesen is being modest. Fold-Pak is responsible for 80% of the nation's Chinese food pales and for one simple reason, the simple design.
"Fold it up like that, attach with a wire handle and there you have the food pale."
And the production is just as simple. Workers load up paper board and it runs through a series of rollers. The sheets get stamped with the traditional pagoda in red, a lucky Chinese color. Then it all gets cut into individual pieces and stacked. From here it's on to the final step, where the pales are glued, wired and boxed up.
You might ask why in Fresno? The answer is also simple. It's all about location.
Director of Operations Lee King says, "Fresno is centrally located, for this particular plant, it's the western seaboard here we are conveniently located between San Francisco and la as well as north east to Arizona."
These poly-coated, leak resistant boxes are the pride of Fold-Pak, and a huge part of Chinese take-out.
