A Chukchansi Indian family is fighting to be recognized. The Ramirez family claims to be direct descendants of the tribe. It is now appealing to the federal government for help.

Mona Bragdon says they have been pushed out of the tribe. That's why they're filing a motion to the federal government to restore their status.

The Ramirez family is still enrolled in the tribe. They say this motion is about honoring rightful heritage. They would like to bring peace to a recently-troubled tribal government.

"This is the third generation that our government did us wrong; our grandmother, my mother and us," said Bragdon.

Attorneys for the family expect the matter to be heard in the fall.
