Now that the pool is open, the focus is now turning to water safety... And not just for the Pinedale Community.
A refreshing sight for the Pinedale Community... It's pool will finally open after two dry years.
Kids like Michael Gomez have been having to go as far away as the pool at Airways golf course for a chance to cool off.
"Well, when it opens, I'm just going to jump in."
Thanks to a $7200, anonymous donation, the pool was filled today.
Several other anonymous donors have followed suit.
Now, city officials say they've collected a total of $20,000 in donations, which is enough to have the Pinedale community pool open again next summer.
Shaun Schaefer, Fresno Parks Dept.: "With what we've seen from this pinedale effort, once word got out to the community, I think everybody realizes how important it is to keep these swimming pools open, especially when we hit heat waves."
After Sunday, 6 pools of the city's 9 pools will be open for the summer.
Fresno United Neighborhoods is now leading an effort to have all 9 pools open next year.
But the recent heat wave is pushing kids to community pools, increasing the chances of an accident happening.
Assembly member Henry Perea is doing his part, at Airways community pool, along with American Ambulance, to make sure kids stay safe.
He even brought along some free ice cream to make sure they paid attention.
The reminders for kids?
Swim with a buddy, make sure there's an adult around, and stay away from canals.
Henry Perea, CA State Assembly: "They may want to jump in. We of course, would encourage kids not to do that, but we also want to teach them to be careful not to walk to close."
Once the Pinedale community pool is in full operation, it will be open from 1 to 5pm everyday.
