Copper thieves are getting more brazen. Recently a number of schools have been hit in the valley. The latest at Hamilton Magnet School in Fresno.

"We estimate over the last year we've had 50 incidents of copper wire theft across Fresno Unified School District," said Karin Temple, Assistant Superintendent of Operations and Facilities.

Eleven classrooms were hit and students walked into dark classrooms on Tuesday.

Police are stressing prevention. Schools are now putting concrete in the utility boxes and rotating guards through schools. Police are even looking at people or businesses that purchase these stolen goods.

"But it's those people that are under the radar and doing illegal business and has a market for these thieves doing business with them," said Sgt. Mark Hudson.
