Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at an abandoned warehouse in southeast Fresno.

The fire broke out at about 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon in the area of Maple and Turner. Fire officials do not know if anything was inside. They say the building was a wooden framed structure. The fire caused the building to come crashing down within eight minutes. No one was hurt.

The smoke and flames could be seen outside the Fresno city limits. Firefighters say the structure's location gave plenty of cause for concern.

"This is a unique situation because we have a commercial warehouse fire in the middle of a residential neighborhood. So our initial concern were the houses to the north, south, and west of this particular complex."

Firefighters say no area evacuations were needed. About 40 firefighters put out the flames. Fresno Water Department officials were also on scene to boost water pressure for firefighters. Officials say the building is a total loss, and the fire is under investigation.
