A pregnant woman who police said was drunk was arrested when she was found asleep behind the steering wheel of her idling car after she had gone to a tattoo parlor in north Houston, left her 1-year-old girl in the car and went inside to get a piercing, officials said.
Stephanie Irene Santana, 20, was charged Wednesday with driving while intoxicated and endangering a child. She was found asleep in her car about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Houston Police Department.
A patrol officer was dispatched to the scene on a call about a woman sleeping in her car, said Kese Smith, an HPD spokesman. Smith said when the officer arrived the woman was found asleep in the car behind the wheel and the engine was running.
A witness told the officer the woman had come into the tattoo parlor to get a piercing but was refused because she appeared to be drunk, Smith said. The woman left and the witness said that’s when the child was seen inside the car.
