Authorities worked around the clock cleaning up chemicals at an ecstasy cooking lab in Clovis. Two arrests have been made in connection with the lab. The bust happened just before midnight Thursday night at a Clovis apartment complex on Villa and Barstow.
Christina Dakin said, "It's wonderful, it's quiet we walk we walk our dogs. Everybody knows each other, it's a wonderful place to live."
The so-called quiet neighborhood was unusually busy Friday. Authorities had their hands full cleaning up an ecstasy lab inside the Pacific Grove Apartment Complex.
Dakin added, "I can't believe it that it's here. I can't believe that's it's in Clovis, just right around the corner."
The complex was blocked off today while officials in hazmat suits spent hours unloading piles of dangerous chemicals.
Clovis Police Department spokesperson Janet Stoll-Lee said, "It's the fumes, the toxicity. And that's the thing at this point we're making sure to clean up."
Police made the bust Thursday night after they responded to call of suspicious drug activity. Officers found two men in the parking lot who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
"One of the people had actually some stolen property from a roommate. They all lived in the same apartment," noted Stoll-Lee.
Police were let inside the apartment and that's where they discovered the active ecstasy lab.
"It was cooking, it was hot, there was strong fumes."
19-year-old Cody Long was arrested for manufacturing the drug. 20-year-old Anthony Smith was also arrested for being under the influence of drugs.
Authorities say the biggest threat in all of this were the toxic fumes. Two roommates living in the apartment, along with two families in nearby units were evacuated until the area was clear.
Officials were still on the scene, clearing the drug lab, Friday evening.
Police say Ecstasy had not been produced at the time they busted the lab, so there is no evidence the suspect had intent to sell or distribute the drug.
