(Z6Mag) Barbie maker Mattel, is under pressure from a Facebook group that wants Barbie to go bald in support of cancer patients. The Facebook fan page has created over 18,500 likes currently. The group wants Barbie to go bald to help support children who suffer from hair loss due to cancer.

Barbie doll has been a popular children’s toy since March 1959, for almost 53 years, and has gone through different stages showing that girls can be whatever they want in life. There’s been an elegant Grace Kelly Barbie; a Barbie in thigh-high pink boots; a tattooed Barbie; a pregnant Barbie friend, Barbie doll in a pink wheelchair, African American Barbie doll; and Barbie has even been given a wider waist to eliminate the anorexia eating disorder image.

On the Beautiful and Bald Barbie Facebook page the organizers give an explanation of what they want behind this movement of wanting Barbie to go bald. The Bald Barbie organizers write, “We would like to see a Beautiful and Bald Barbie made to help young girls who suffer from hair loss due to cancer treatments, Alopecia or Trichotillomania. Also, for young girls who are having trouble coping with their mother’s hair loss from chemo. Many children have some difficulty accepting their mother, sister, aunt, grandparent or friend going from a long haired to a bald.”
