It was a job fair for the Big Fresno Fair Wednesday. Thousands lined up looking for work.
Different faces, different backgrounds, thousands showed up at the Fresno fairgrounds with one goal in mind. Work at the Big Fresno Fair. Nick showed up at 3:15 in the morning. He was the first in line. "I just want a job, I've been looking for a job for a year now. I just haven't had any luck. It's just hard. Getting a job nowadays."
Nick was told to "dress to impress." but if you look closer, his clothes could tell an even deeper story. Nick says everyone in his household is currently unemployed. "My mom just got off unemployment because they just cut it off so everyone is scrambling to find a job so it's hard out there."
His girlfriend is in a similar situation. Dani Souvannasack says she'll take any job. "I just want a job. Any kind of job so I can help pay for bills."
For Emery Farmer this job fair means so much more. "I'm actually here because I'm going through some life changes. I need a fresh start and I need to do what's necessary to turn my life around. Become a productive citizen of society."
Jobs like gate keepers, ticket takers and sellers are up for grabs. There are 800 jobs available.
Outside thousands waited in the scorching heat. Tempers even flared at one point as a fight took place in the middle of the line, keeping private security busy. Right when the doors opened hungry job seekers ran to their preferred departments.
Lauri King, Deputy Manager Big Fresno Fair: "We want employees who are energetic and passionate and excited and want to be out here and want to work."
A background check will be conducted on every applicant. Job seekers will know if they got the job by the second week of September.
The jobs are very temporary, and could last anywhere from two to eight weeks.
