The bodies of an Illinois man and his two young sons who got lost in freezing temperatures during a hike in southern Missouri were discovered on Sunday.

David Decareaux, 36, and his sons, Dominic, 10, and Grant, 8, died from exposure to rain and frigid temperatures while hiking on the Ozark Trail on Saturday, police said.

Decareaux, an Air Force vet, and his family were spending the weekend at the Brushy Creek Lodge in Reynolds County, some 110 miles southwest of St. Louis.

The father of five set out with his two boys and their yellow lab for a hike on Saturday morning amid mild weather.
