(Press Release) On Friday afternoon, Corcoran Police officers served an arrest warrant on 46-year-old Karen Gomez-Barrera for Grand theft and Possession of stolen property.
Barrera was arrested after an investigation into allegations of embezzlement from the Corcoran Family YMCA, where she formerly served as Executive Director. During the investigation, detectives interviewed several of Barrera's former co-workers and relatives regarding the misappropriation of cash and property from the YMCA's charge account, totaling approximately $70,000.
In May, 2012, detectives served a search warrant at her home in Tulare where numerous items belonging to the Corcoran YMCA were found, including electronics (flat screen T.V., computers, cameras, Xbox video game system, movies, video games, MP3 players, gift cards) and office supplies and files.
After completing the investigation, a criminal complaint was forwarded to the Kings County District Attorney's Office where charges of Grand theft and Possession of stolen property were filed resulting in her arrest warrant. Barrera was booked at the Corcoran PD city jail and cited to appear in the Kings County Superior Court on July 20th.
