(Press Release) On Wednesday night members of the Fresno Police Department's Southwest District Crime Suppression Team were working a proactive patrol in Northwest Fresno as part of an ongoing crime suppression operation, when they heard multiple gunshots in the area of Blackstone and Griffith.
As the officers drove into the area they saw four subjects in the area and went to talk to them. One of the subjects, Nathaniel Evans, immediately began running while attempting to hold something hidden in his pants.
The three remaining subjects were detained while a perimeter was established. Fresno PD’s Skywatch Helicopter arrived and officers began to search the area.
Evans was located hiding in the back of a nearby apartment complex and was taken into custody. The officers were able to find the item, a shotgun, he was attempting to run with hidden in a wall nearby.
During the investigation Evans admitted to being in possession of the shotgun and shooting it just before the officer’s arrival.
Four subjects were arrested related to the reckless shooting.
20-year-old Nathaniel Evans of Fresno, a Northside Crip associate, was arrested on multiple felony charges including; Reckless discharge of a firearm, destroying Serial Numbers on a Firearm, and obstructing a Peace Officer.
21-year-old Timothy Benton of Los Angles, a Northside Crip associate, was arrested for accessory to commit a felony
23-year-old Kennen Wheeler of Fresno, a Northside Crip, was also arrested for accessory to commit a felony.
An additional 14-year-old was taken into custody for accessory to commit a felony as well.
All of the adult subjects were booked into Fresno county jail with additional charges pending. The teenager was booked into Fresno County Juvenile Hall.
