(Press Release) Just before 11:00 p.m. Thursday night Fresno Police officers heard a volley of shots fired as they were patrolling in the area of Floradora and Angus Avenues. The officers began to search the area when they saw a white Honda Accord speed off.
Suspecting the vehicle was involved in a shooting, the officers attempted to stop the car. The driver, Jose Lopez Velasquez, failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. Shortly after the pursuit began, a passenger later identified as Adan Gonzalez, was observed throwing a handgun out of the vehicle as it drove northbound from Blackstone and Floradora.
After discarding what was later determined to be loaded stolen .357 Smith & Wesson handgun out of the vehicle, the driver stopped on Blackstone and Yale, and the occupants were taken into custody. Two other suspected gang members, Lizbeth Martinez and Lizeth Vidalis were also taken into custody.
During the investigation officers gathered enough information to obtain a search warrant for a home at 3707 E. Grant Avenue. While searching the home, officers found ammunition for the stolen .357 handgun and a stolen computer.
All four individuals were booked into Fresno County Jail for the negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of stolen property, evading police and gang enhancements.
