It was a great morning for Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims, the department and Fresno County.

Thursday morning, the sheriff added nearly six dozen new members to her staff. She swore in eight new sheriff deputies, 43 new correctional officers and five reserve deputies.

The sheriff shows that despite tough financial times the past couple years the department is moving forward to keep Fresno county and its residents safe.

"Now to be hired by the sheriff's office, you go through a pretty grueling background process. So those we have hired have stood that test. We have quality people that i'm sure will serve the public well," said Mims.

The sheriff says this is the largest group she has sworn in since she has been sheriff.
