Fresno Fire Captain Injured in Commercial Fire

A fire captain was injured in a two story building commercial fire near Blackstone and Floradora Wednesday night, when he stepped through a hole on the second floor.

The unnamed 45 year-old fire captain stepped through a hole on the second floor which gave way. The fall went through to his chest where he caught himself prior to falling through to the first floor.

The hole was covered by sheet rock and not visible to the captain has be began stepping through the building.

He was evaluated at the scene by American Ambulance and transported to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate but non-life threatening injuries.

Initial CAT scans did not reveal any broken bones, however things such as cracked ribs, torn ligaments, etc do not show up on that type scan.

He is still waiting to find out the severity of his injuries and is scheduled to undergo further diagnosis in the coming days.

The captain was released from the hospital early this morning with cuts and bruises, however remains in good spirits, with an extended period of off duty recovery for his injuries.

Fresno Fire Department dispatch received the call around 11:13 P.M. on Wednesday and the first engine arrived 4 minutes later for a 2 alarm commercial fire.

The fire was subdued.

A total of 39 firefighters from seven engines, three ladder trucks, and two battalion chiefs were at the scene.
