A Fresno County man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading deputies on a low speed pursuit and endangering the life of a one year old child.

Sheriff's say 31 year old Dusty William Lewis led deputies on the pursuit for more than five minutes when he failed to stop for a traffic violation in the area of Palm and Lansing

Lewis eventually came to a stop at a Save Mart parking lot on North West Avenue but then bolted inside the store, where he was eventually caught and arrested.

During the ensuing investigation, deputies discovered a 1 year old child sitting unrestrained in the back seat of Lewis' vehicle. Also found in the car were two large bags of narcotics and a loaded handgun.

A check on Lewis found that he had just been discharged from parole for a rape charge and is currently listed as a registered sex offender.

The one year old, who happened to be celebrating her first birthday, was handed over to her mother.
