Fresno State President John D. Welty directed the university's flags to be lowered half-staff in recognition of the victims of the Colorado movie theater killings early July 20.

Welty issued the following statement to the Fresno State community:

“Today in Aurora, Colorado, our nation has again experienced a horrific tragedy that touches us all on so many levels. On behalf of the Fresno State community, I express our condolences to those who lost loved ones and pray for the recovery of those injured and also for their families and friends.

“In keeping with the order by President Obama, I have directed that the university’s United States and California flags be flown at half-staff until sunset on Wednesday, July 25.
