"Fresno Unified School District is working closely with the Fresno County Public Health Department regarding a Sunnyside High School student who contracted bacterial meningitis. While we recognize there may be concern in the community it is important to note the chance of someone becoming ill with this disease is very small. Fresno County Public Health Department and Fresno Unified officials are working together to protect the health and safety of all students. School administrators and nurses have identified those who have had close contact with the student, i.e., sharing of utensils, and have recommended preventative antibiotic therapy. Letters have been sent home with students and the principal has sent an automated phone call to all parents/guardians. The letter is also available on Sunnyside’s website.”
