Jeremiah Gutierrez, formerly #3 on the Fresno Police Department’s “Top 5 Auto Thieves” list, was sentenced to three years in state prison for auto theft, firearms, identity theft, and burglary crimes.
Gutierrez pleaded guilty to six felony charges, including a “strike” offense. Gutierrez is another example of a career criminal auto thief involved in a wide variety of criminal enterprises.
In 2011, he was arrested ten times for similar offenses.
The cooperative effort between the California Highway Patrol, Clovis Police Department, and Fresno Police Department as well as the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office has lowered the incidents of auto theft by 27.4% in Fresno year to date, and equates to 816 fewer vehicles stolen in 2012, versus the same date in 2011.
