The children of a deceased woman filed a lawsuit against a southern California funeral home on Wednesday for allegedly placing their mother in the wrong casket, wearing someone else's clothes, and burying her when she wasn't supposed to be buried.
Mercedes Rodriguez died in September 2010. Her children, Alberto Pernudi of Pasadena, Marelena Covarrubias of Whittier and Patricia Khazraei of Temple City cited fraud and emotional distress in their lawsuit against the Rose Hills Memorial Park near Whittier.
The children said that Rose Hills was supposed to prepare their mother for burial at a family site in Granada, Nicaragua, but they lost track of her and buried her on site.
Her casket was dug up three days later, which is when they discovered that she was in another woman's clothes.
Rodriguez's children were planning to travel to Nicaragua and deliver the casket to the burial location when they were allegedly informed by a Rose Hills salesperson about the mistake.
