(Press Release) On Sunday at about 7:00 p.m., Zhorn Piliposyan of Fresno was sitting inside of his parked vehicle outside of the Amtrak Train Station, in downtown Fresno. While he sat inside his car, he was confronted by two suspects who ordered him out of his vehicle at gunpoint. The suspect armed with the handgun identified himself to Piliposyan as a Bulldog Gang Member. Fearing that he would be shot if he didn’t comply with the their demands, he got out of his vehicle and allowed the suspects to take his car.
Later that evening, patrol officers located Piliposyan’s car abandoned behind a business at Blackstone and Saginaw. When officers searched the car they found documents linking 18-year-old Anthony Spears to the carjacking. Police also found a pellet pistol which looked like a real gun hidden inside the vehicle.
At around 11:00 p.m., officers saw Spears walking in the area of Ninth and Bulldog Lane and apprehended him without incident.
Anthony Spears is reported to have an extensive criminal history and is a member of the Fresno Bulldog Criminal Street Gang. During an interview with detectives, Spears admitted to his involvement in the carjacking.
Monday morning, Spears was booked into the Fresno County Jail for carjacking and being a member of a criminal street gang.
