A Holly Hill, Florida man was arrested after police said he tried to kill his housekeeper when she refused his advances.

Michael Anselmo, 64, is charged with attempted murder after he stabbed 47-year-old Deidre Nightingale in the chest and tried to slit her throat.

Nightingale worked for Anselmo for years cooking and cleaning, but Anselmo wanted more from her, investigators said.

Officers said that when Nightingale refused Anselmo's advances, he grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked her, trying to slit her throat.

Police said Nightingale was able to get out of the house, and golfers from a nearby course held Anselmo off until officials arrived.

Kevin Holt, 22, was golfing with his father at Rivera Golf Club when he fought off Anselmo with a club.

"I went up with the golf club and told the man to drop the knife," said Holt. "He didn't want to drop it, so I told him I was going to hit him with the golf club."

Four people in all helped fend off Anselmo.

"He finally dropped the knife and then I handed the golf club to my father so he could stand over him and not let him up," said Holt. "Then I went to help the woman."

According to the police report, witnesses said Anselmo was overheard saying "I wish you were dead" or "I wish you would die."
