A family argument in Hanford turned deadly Thursday morning at a home on Maxwell Drive. When police arrived they found 19-year-old Adam Ayala had been shot.

“He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. He had a single gunshot wound to his neck,” explained Captain Darrell Smith.

Police believe his older brother, 26-year-old Samuel Ayala was the shooter. He's a known gang member with an extensive criminal record.

They say after he shot his younger brother inside his parent's house. He ran off and tried hiding behind a home. Smith explained, “The suspect was actually apprehended in the area of 9 1/4 and Myrtle, sheriff's deputies spotted him. A quick perimeter was set up and spotted him a quarter mile from the original scene.”

Ayala was arrested and booked into jail. Schools nearby were on lock-down for about 45 minutes.

This is the second homicide in Hanford so far this year.
