Evacuations Ordered in Fresno Hazardous Materials Release

Fire crews work on scene of a hazardous materials release at Golden State Vinters in Southwest Fresno.

The Fresno Fire Department has evacuated everyone within a mile radius of a hazardous materials release at Golden State Vintners in southwest Fresno.

A worker notified the fire department of a vapor cloud just after 5:00 a.m. and crews were immediately on scene securing the area.

Twelve people were treated for exposure and three were sent to the hostpital for futher evaluation. None of the victims were treated as serious.

Officials say the vapor cloud started to travel east toward the Fresno Police Departments Training Center, but crews were dispatched to the location to remove any personal.

Central is closed between Chateau Fresno and Polk.

The Fresno Fire Department is advising anyone living in the area to shelter in their homes, close windows and turn off HVAC systems.
