Excessive Heat Advisory Prompts Health Watch

That it's hot doesn't really shock anyone. But when it's hot like this, 105 or more for consecutive days, that's when the health department gets involved.

Officials from Kings county to Madera county have issued excessive heat advisories, and are urging caution, especially to people with chronic health conditions, like heart disease, diabetes, or asthma.

Keep cool, and stay hydrated. The warnings don't just apply to people with health conditions. They're for everyone who knows someone with health problems.

David Luchini, Fresno County Health Dept.: "We need to do our part, as neighbors, relatives, friends, to make sure we're checking up on them. I few know the elderly or have chronic medical conditions. Try to do it twice a day."

For people that absolutely have to be outside, whether it's for work or sports... Stay hydrated!

Football coaches at Bullard High School are making sure the heat doesn't stop their players from making another run at valley title.

But Fresno Unified School District is limiting practices to morning hours through Saturday.

Keep cool, and stay hydrated...

It's what Ruth Pinedo is doing with her day care kids.

She took them to the pool at airways for one of their last field trips of the summer.

Yeah it's hot, but she says it could be worse...

"It's mellow. If you go south, it's hotter."

I know, I know... You've heard it all before...

But the health department says some people just aren't getting the message.

Luchini: "People do get complacent. They forget to drink water or fluids, or while they're playing sports, and they don't hydrate before they play physical activities, and they get dehydrated."

One more reminder from the health department... Don't leave anyone, or your pets, in a hot, parked car. Not even with the windows down.

County health departments are putting an emphasis on staying cool.
