A Fresno woman was shot and killed in what appears to be a drive by shooting. Police are now searching for the gunman. It happened Sunday at a duplex in Southeast Fresno.

More than five rounds were fired into a duplex on East Hedges. It was a single bullet that killed a woman standing on the other side of the door.

"When I saw her, she was laying on the floor. I said gee, why? It's so scary," says neighbor Pao Siong.

Siong moved into the next door unit less than a month ago. He was home watching TV When the gunfire broke out.

"All of a sudden, bam bam bam. That's what I heard, like three or four times."

Siong says he opened his door to see what happened, and saw a black car driving away from the scene. Other witnesses told police the shots were fired from that car. The victim, a woman in her mid-50's, was hit in the upper body. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Police believe this was an intentional shooting, but don't know if the victim was the intended target.

Lt. Phil Cooley says, "We don't think it was an accident."

"It's so sad, it's so sad. It's something that I can't believe happened so quick," says Siong.

Siong didn't know his neighbor, but he says nothing ever seemed suspicious. He says the victim lived with her three sons and daughter. Her kids were home when the shooting happened, but were not hurt. Police aren't sure if the murder was gang-related.

"We're still looking into any type of reasoning why this happened, so right now we're still unsure." says Lt. Cooley.

Siong says, "It's so scary. I just want to move out. I know that this is a commercial area and that there's only one apartment complex next door. It should be safe here, but it wasn't."
