A Taft Union High School student is in critical condition after being shot by a classmate this morning.

Shortly after 9, the 16-year-old student armed with a shotgun entered a classroom at the high school. He immediately shot the one student and fired at another classmate.

Investigators believe those two students were the intended targets.

As the rest of the class managed to escape the classroom, the teacher managed to talk the armed student into turning over the shotgun.

That teacher was also grazed with a pellet from the shotgun blasts.

The suspect was then taken into custody and investigators say the suspect still had more shotgun shells on him.

The names of the victim, teacher and shooter have not been released.
