A house explosion rocked a west central Fresno neighborhood this morning. One man is in the hospital and investigators say a meth lab is to blame.
It happened on Katy Avenue near Ashlan and Highway 99 around 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning. A man inside the home was badly burned. Two neighbors rushed to the scene and helped get him to safety.
Those working the case say they've seen a big increase in meth conversion labs lately. The meth is produced in Mexico, then brought here and converted to ice. "In the state of California this year we've had 22 explosions in conversion labs. And that's probably a 50% increase over last year."
The man pulled from the house was taken to the hospital. There's no word on his condition tonight. Fire investigators say the house is a total loss.
