Al Aguilar has seen a lot of car accidents...
He lives on State Route 216 near Avenue 152
Just south of Ivanhoe... A road he says is deadly.
"People know it as death row and now I understand."
He wasn't there at the time...
But around 10:30am Monday morning, an SUV and a small truck collided head on near his home...
The driver of the truck died at the scene, and 8 people in the suv were taken to the hospital.
"We're not sure if alcohol was a factor and we're not sure why the person was on the wrong side of the road."
Officer David Gosvener says the man driving the suv caused it...
He says the man tried to run from the scene...
Officers caught him before he could get away.
A gun was also found at the scene but investigators aren't sure who it belongs to.
"It's a criminal case, it's gonna be felony hit and run and it'll be pending manslaughter or higher charges."
Gosvener says it was foggy at the time...
Visibility was somewhere between 200 to 400 feet...
But investigators aren't sure if it was a factor.
Aguilar says it's the road and drivers not paying attention on the curve.
He also says this wreck didn't surprise him.
"This isn't going to be the last, it's going to be one of many that are soon to happen here."
The driver of the SUV is one of the 8 people in the hospital.
He is in custody and will be booked into the Tulare County Jail after he's treated.
