Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. broke barriers and paved the way for many to have opportunities that were not afforded them before so they might "live the dream."
At the African-American Historical and Cultural Museum, an Edison High School Graduate was honored for "living the dream."
Shelyna Brown was honored by the members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
She is a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge, and in addition to Edison High, she also went to Edison Computech.
She says the recognition is an honor, and the experience was humbling.
"During this time, we do remember Dr. Martin Luther King and because he did what he did, I'm able to stand here on the shoulders of those who did so to allow me to have this opportunity."
Councilmember Oliver Baines was on hand for the ceremony.
Judge Brown says it was especially meaningful to receive the honor the day before Martin Luther King Day.
