(Press Release) The Fresno County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a Kingsburg man on burglary charges after leading deputies and officers on a 20 minute pursuit.

Saturday morning, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Kingsburg officers were dispatched to a home located in the 2500 block of Sierra Avenue regarding an audible burglar alarm. As officers arrived, they saw a white colored GMC fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. Officers gave chase and requested assistance from Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies arrived and assisted in the pursuit which reached speeds of over 80 mph. The driver of the truck, later identified as 44-year-old Casey Marc Barela, drove at speeds of over 80 mph, ran stop signs and violated several other traffic laws.

When the pursuit got to the area of Clarkson & Bethel, Barela stopped the truck, got out, and fled on foot into a nearby orchard. After chasing Barela on foot for several minutes, he was caught and immediately started fighting with deputies. With the use of a Taser, Barela was finally taken into custody.

Upon checking the home on Sierra Avenue, it was learned that the house was actually in the County of Fresno, and a burglary had taken place.

Barela was transported to the Selma Hospital for treatment prior to being booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of burglary, felony evading, and resisting arrest.
