(Press Release) Merced County Sheriff's deputies assigned to the AB109 Task Force were assisting Merced Probation with compliance checks in the Los Banos area on Thursday. When officers arrived at a home near Canal Farm Lane and Mercy Springs Road they were met at the door by 19-year-old Dominique Rumpf, the sister of the probationer. They could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the house. Rumpf's brother was not at home, but after a check of the home, officers discovered, about 2.7 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale and five hydrocodone pills in a cabinet.
There was no food in the house but deputies said they found two marijuana cupcakes in the refrigerator within easy reach of the 1-year-old boy living there. Rumpf admitted to smoking marijuana in the kitchen 10 minutes before the agents showed up, while her son was asleep in another room.
Deputies found 20-year-old Brandon Torres at the home during the search, he had a misdemeanor warrant from Santa Clara County. Torres was cited and released while Rumpf was arrested for child endangerment, possession of methamphetamine and possession of prescription medication and is in jail on $70,000 bail. The child was released to a family member.
