A Madera family is grieving the loss of a 19-month-old child after
investigators say the young girl's mother accidentally backed her SUV over her daughter.
The accident happened just before noon at a home on the 26000 block of Martin Avenue.
According to the CHP who was called out to investigate, the mother thought her brother was with 19-month-old Merlyn Cruz Hernandez inside the home as she was about to take a trip to the store.
The mother had no idea her little girl had gotten outside and was behind the vehicle.
Authorities say the woman wasn't going very fast, but the impact was enough to cause fatal injures.
