A man surfing off Surf Beach north of Santa Barbara was pronounced dead Tuesday after he was pulled from the water by a friend who told authorities the man was attacked by a shark.
The friend was surfing with the victim and witnessed the shark attack, said the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department.
Deputies said the friend started first aid procedures after the attack while another surfer called 911. Vandenburg Air Force Base Fire Department responded to the scene and the victim was pronounced dead at the beach by paramedics.
