A Chicago man involved in a domestic dispute attached a cable around his neck after harnessing it to his car, then quickly accelerated and decapitated himself.
Sheriff officials said deputies responding to a call of a domestic disturbance Tuesday were taking a statement from the man's ex-wife when they noticed an SUV pulling a utility trailer that was on fire.
A firefighter noticed a cable attached to a tree extended around the man's neck. When they tried to get the man to exit the white Ford Explorer, he accelerated, was pulled from the vehicle and decapitated, they said.
Officials said the cable was of the type that could be used to hoist an automobile engine. They also said the man started the fire on the trailer.
It is reported the man and his ex-wife had quarreled over the man's living arrangements.
Authorities are unsure how long the couple had been divorced. The couple have two school-age children who were not at home at the time.
