You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here.

A North Carolina man jailed since May 22 refused to leave the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office after his release 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Rodney Dwayne Valentine, 37, originally landed in jail after being charged with injury to personal property. Upon release, Valentine asked officers to give him a lift to a motel nearby. When they declined, he refused to leave, according to a country sheriff’s news release.

After several hours passed and Valentine still remained, Deputies suggested he take a cab, he refused. Officials gave him repeated warnings that he had to leave.

At 1 p.m. deputies arrested Valentine, charged him with second degree trespassing and tossed him back in the clink.

Valentine is being held under $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court August 9.
