Officials from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office on a helicopter patrol of Chicago had to do a double take when they spotted a massive pot farm that covered an area the size of two football fields.
Officers were suspicious of the bright-green plants growing in organized rows not far from a freeway, so they snapped some pics and showed the Chicago Police Department’s narcotics division.
After arriving at the scene to check it out, officers found more than 1,500 plants that were between 6 and 8 feet tall, one of the biggest outdoor busts in recent history. The find was a surprise for officers, considering the Chicagoland great outdoors isn't exactly an ideal pot-growing environment.
They estimated the crop to be worth $10 million.
