(Press Release) Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin and San Francisco Mayor Edwin M. Lee agreed on Wednesday to a friendly wager on the 2011 college football season opening game between the University of California at Berkeley Golden Bears and the Fresno State Bulldogs in the TicketCity Battle by the Bay Saturday at Candlestick Park. Mayors Lee and Swearengin will both attend the game and participate in the on-the-field coin toss.

Mayors Lee and Swearengin agreed that the office of the winning team’s mayor will receive a package of the losing city mayor’s best treats and drinks. If the Cal Bears win, Mayor Swearengin will send award-winning Fresno State wine and other Fresno State products such as olive oil, nuts, fruits and vegetables. If the Fresno State Bulldogs win, Mayor Lee will send Dungeness crab from Fisherman’s Wharf, Anchor Steam beer, Ghirardelli chocolates and Philz coffee.

“Everyone knows that Fresno State and the Fresno area are home to the world’s best food products,” said Mayor Swearengin. “We enjoy that bounty on a daily basis, but nothing will top the sweet taste of victory we’re going to experience Saturday when the Fresno State Bulldogs beat the Cal Bears. I’m looking forward to winning the bet with Mayor Lee and feasting on some of the finest food and drink that San Francisco has to offer.”

“Like all proud Cal alumni, I’ll be rooting for the Bears to defeat the Bulldogs in an exciting game this Saturday,” said Mayor Lee. “I’ll proudly enjoy Fresno’s best treats and drinks when we win our friendly bet with Mayor Swearengin. GO BEARS!”
