Merced County health officials say an elderly woman has died from the West Nile Virus.

The report was released earlier today but the victim's name has yet to be released.

Four other West Nile cases have already been reported this year in Merced County. The Merced Sun-Star reports they have all recovered.

The virus is carried by mosquitoes. For protection, health officials recommend to use insect repellent and keep yourself covered in long sleeved clothing.
