Michigan education officials admit their newly hired armed security guard left his gun in a charter school bathroom, but they don't see any reason to make an issue out of it.
'It's almost like no harm no foul,' said Lapeer County Prosecutor Byron Konschuh noting that since none of the children attending kindergarten through eighth grade at the school were injured the incident would not result in criminal charges.
Just a week ago Chatfield School officials announced the hiring of Clark Arnold as their new armed guard in response to the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Arnold, a retired Lapeer County Sheriff's Dept. firearms instructor, was held up as a 'tremendous asset to the safety of our students,' by school director Matt Young.
However on Monday Arnold left his unloaded firearm unattended in the bathroom.
Young admitted the mistake was a 'breach in security protocol' as the weapon was left out 'for a few moments' but declined to comment on whether Arnold would be reprimanded.
