(DAILY MAIL) A Florida mother has been arrested and jailed after it was revealed her daughter has missed almost two years of school.

Elizabeth Marrero was arrested after she failed to listen to warnings that her daughter had to attend school. The girl, who has not been named, only attended five days of school during the normal 180 day school year.

Officials with the Lake County School district in Florida had tried working with Marrero to make sure her daughter attended lessons, but they said the girl, believed to be 15-years-old, hasn't attended classes since the 2009-2010 school year.

School officials said the girl should now be in high school but has missed out entirely on her middle school years. After failing to get any cooperation from Marrero, school officials handed the problem over to the state's attorney's office.

An arrest warrant was issued for Marrero and she turned herself in.
Marrero was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and faces up to a year in jail.

"It's shocking because why wouldn't a parent send their kid to school?' said Francis Pimento, a neighbor of Marerro

Pimento said the woman has toddlers in her home too.
