Fresno Police are teaming up with the Allstate Insurance Company to raise awareness of motorcycle safety with a new road sign.

As part of a nationwide effort to reduce the number of crashes involving two-wheelers and cars, the yellow, diamond-shaped warning sign was created following two years of development and testing. According to Fresno Police, warmer weather and high gas prices have increased the amount of motorcyclists on our roadways.

"You see a sign that says 'Beware of Motorcycles' or any of those types of signs, it brings more awareness. You are more careful to make sure you're being aware of the motorcycle drivers."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly half of all multi-vehicle crashes resulting in a fatality for motorcyclists occur at intersections, often as a result of a vehicle turning left and impeding the motorcyclist's right-of-way.
