New Car Owners Find Lost 50 Year Old Wedding Ring, Returns to Widow

A Sacramento couple's 1200 mile cross-country quest to find the owners of a 50-year-old wedding ring ended back where it started in California, when the band was returned to its owner.

Having discovered the 14 karat, white gold and diamond ring down the back of their recently purchased Pontiac Grand Am, Steve and Shannon Callahan had decided that they must locate whoever was missing the ring.

Doing a little detective work, the couple tracked the original registration of their 2004 car to El Paso in Texas, but after hitting a dead end there fortuitously found the owner living back in Sacramento.

Returning the ring to an emotional 78-year-old Darlene King, Steve, 44 and Shannon, 39, discovered that the ring in fact belonged to King's late husband Thomas, who had died six months ago.

In fact, the return of the ring was all the more poignant for King as she herself had lost her own wedding band years before and had given up, along with her husband, of ever seeing his again.

'I told him it probably went down the drain or something,' said King to the Sacramento Bee 'We thought it was a lost cause.'
