Major developments have surfaced in the case of Megan Martzen, who is accused of killing 17-month-old Ella Vanleeuwen while the girl was in her care back in 2009.

Wednesday, Martzen's attorney said the prosecution's medical expert has changed his opinion, and now believes the little girl's death was accidental.

A coroner's report shows Vanleeuwen died from blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen. According to defense attorney Jeff Hammerschmidt, the expert now says those injuries are consistent with two accidental falls that took place both in and out of Martzen's care.

A hearing in the case is scheduled for Thursday morning.
