The city of Fresno has its newest police auditor.

Rick Rasmussen was introduced on Tuesday by Mayor Ashley Swearengen and City Manager Mark Scott. The post was vacant for more than a year after the last auditor left.

Rasmussen will work independently of the police department. His job is to review internal investigations to make sure they are fair and unbiased.

The city manager says it's about building public confidence and saving money from lawsuits.
