(Press Release) Sheriff John Anderson announced late Friday the capture of two teenaged girls, who are accused of trying to carjack a tourist in Oakhurst.

According to reports, 18-year-old Channa Hammond and 18-year-old Jessica Tancredi, one of them armed, tried to carjack a Japanese tourist in a parking lot near McDonalds in Oakhurst.

An employee of a nearby restaurant saw the victim being attacked and immediately ran to his aid. The women then reportedly came after him. When deputies arrived, both teens fled on foot.

A deputy was able to capture them near an alley – not far from where the alleged crime occurred, without further incident.

A gun used in the carjacking attempt was later found near a dumpster. Deputies also found a screwdriver believed to have been brandished during the attack as well.

The victim, a 28-year old man whose name is not being released, was visiting the U.S. from Tokyo, living temporarily in Southern California. Neither he nor the man who came to his aid sustained serious injuries. The name of the Good Samaritan is not being released at this time.

The two suspects remain jailed, facing carjacking and weapons charges. Bail set at $100,000 each.
