The meth was sent from Visalia to Alaska. According to the Anchorage Daily News, four pounds of the drug were vacuum sealed inside papayas and mailed in an express package.
The US Postal Inspection Service couldn't confirm those details but Assitant Inspector, James Wilson told KSEE24 News what he could over the phone. He said a tip led inspectors to the drugs, "We do anything in our power to eliminate the threat of narcotics being sent through the US Mail...unfortunately, it does happen...when we get a tip, we follow through with it."
A controlled delivery was used to make the bust. According to ADN, inspectors intercepted the package, replaced the meth with fake drugs, wired and delivered it on Tuesday. The next day, Alaskan officers made the bust as soon as the package was opened.
"We just want to ensure that any and all contraband is not sent through the mail to ensure the safety of our employees, the public and the safety of the people sending and receiving unsafe mail," Wilson added.
According to reports, officers arrested 25-year-old San Saechao and charged him with possession drugs with intent to distribute. Wilson couldn't confirm that because he says the investigation isn't over.
