(Press Release) Rejuvenated by the continuation of international air service to Guadalajara, Mexico, more than 1.2 million passengers traveled through Fresno Yosemite International Airport in 2011, a 6.4% increase over 2010. Concurrently, annual air cargo volumes increased by 14.12% over 2010.
The 6.4% passenger surge over 2010 was primarily stimulated by re-establishing daily non-stop service to Guadalajara, Mexico. A combined total of nearly 106,000 passengers traveled to and from Guadalajara from April 2011 through December 2011.
Impressive international and domestic traffic performance positioned 2011 as the third highest traffic year in FYI’s reported history. Passenger traffic in 2007 peaked with more than 1.3 million passengers traveling through Fresno, while year 2006 followed second with nearly 1.3 million passengers.
Air cargo continues to significantly increase with more than 11,000 tons of cargo transported through FYI in 2011 compared to more than 9 thousand tons in 2010.
The Airport is forecasting international and domestic air travel to continue on record-breaking pace for 2012. The recent announcement of two daily flights to San Diego scheduled to launch on June 4th will complement FYI’s growing passenger levels.
